Keith Sewell

Raised in the small Texas town of Duncanville, Keith was born with bluegrass in his blood. His grandfather, Kenny Sewell, was a fiddler with the celebrated Shady Grove Ramblers, and the fledgling Sewell followed in his granddaddy’s footsteps, taking up the fiddle at the tender age of 3 and traveling to bluegrass festivals far and wide to compete in fiddling contests. His musical talents were soon parlayed to the five-string banjo, mandolin and then to the guitar, which he considers his primary instrument.

Sewell moved to Nashville shortly after high school and began a musical quest that has produced successful careers as and Artist/ Songwriter and sideman. Sewell has toured with a number of celebrated acts including Ricky Skaggs, the Dixie Chicks, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Many others. It was Ricky Skaggs gave him his start with his country band when Keith was just 19 years old. He was in Kentucky Thunder for 7 years. He has toured with the Dixie Chicks on their last two world tours (2003 and 2006).

Currently, he plays acoustic guitar and mandolin in Lyle Lovett’s Large Band and also tours with Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group.. By the same token, his songs have been recorded by a number of eclectic artists ranging from Montgomery Gentry and Steve Wariner to Sonja Isaacs and BR-549, among others. Ricky Skaggs has recorded 6 of Keith's songs thoughout his career including his 1991 Top 20 hit “From the Word Love” for the album My Father’s Son.
